HETAC is the Illinois Homelessness Education & Training Technical Assistance Center, a statewide resource that develops and oversees a portfolio of work strengthening the homeless-services field. A program of SHPA.

Our story

From a state commitment
to a statewide center

Established in 2022 through the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, HETAC was created to develop, fund, and support work across the state’s homelessness response. [copy pending SHPA review]

The center develops and oversees a statewide portfolio of partner projects spanning data and quality, prevention, veterans, Medicaid, youth, workforce, public benefits, system alignment, and crisis response, alongside training, technical assistance, and published resources. [placeholder]

2021

OPEH established

The Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness is created, following the Governor’s Executive Order to fight homelessness. [placeholder]

2022 (FY23)

HETAC first funded

The center launches, sponsored by SHPA, to support implementation of the statewide Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. [placeholder]

2023–2024

Portfolio grows statewide

The partner-project portfolio expands across data, veterans, prevention, youth, and more, reaching organizations across Illinois. [placeholder]

A program of SHPA

Backed by decades of supportive housing leadership

HETAC operates as a program of the Supportive Housing Providers Association, Illinois’s statewide membership organization for providers committed to ending homelessness. [placeholder]
